For performance similar to the GTX 970 and its successor, the R9 390, but at 40 to 70 dollars cheaper, this card is a great deal.—Jul '15

Amazing card! Bought the sapphire tri-x oc edition for 60 euro and after overclocking(1200core, 1600mem), it benchmarks better than the RX 580 and GTX 1060!

Absolutely amazing GPU. Really fast and other benchmarks, such as 3D Mark shows huge framerates in certain tests. I am really happy with this GPU.—Apr '15

Too bad for the power consumption and heat, but you can get this GPU for a low price nowadays and it still offers very good performance!

The R9 290 (non-x version) is one of Radeon's flagship cards of 2013. Running with 4GB of GDDR5, a TDP of 275W, & a process size of 28nm based off the Hawaii architecture, it was seen as a very high end card to many in that current year. Although it did face a bit of an overheating problem like the GTX 480, it outperforms that 480 by an obvious margin. With a GPU clock of 947 Mhz & memory clock of 1250Mhz this looked like a card that could compete with another high end card, the 780 (non-ti), and it did pretty well, being within the range of that card. Other specifications include 2560 Shading Units, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, 40 Compute Units, L1 cache of 16kb & L2 cache of 1024kb, & 6.2 million transistors to name some specs. Although the launch price was somewhat high at the time ($399 USD MSRP), other users could get the 780 (non-ti) at the time for nearly $70 USD less at $329 USD MSRP. Both were great cards at the time and to this day they can still perform like the flagships they always were.

Great GPU, unfortunately it was supersede by the next generation very quick. Great Performance towards any game, I able to play everything in higher resolution and max setting.

Quite power hungry, but it remains comparable to the mainstream cards of today and quite a compute beast. Good performer on a budget if used!

My first high end gpu on a budget, buyed on ebay for 115 euros, and it's a good performer. Even thought it's loud and power hungry, has got performance similar to a gtx 1060.

very good graphic card, good price, perfect for overclocking!

Very good

Very happy with this GPU. No need to upgrade since it can play anything at max settings/resolution.

Best value at $200! Extremely quiet. The reviews claimed a loud card but fan speed stays below 40%

Amazing, yet very power hungry

Had this for 8 years, its still pushing max settings @ 1080p, med at 4k for some games. Power hungry though.
