I feel like it's a new gpu, so hard to believe that it's from 2012, wow!

Forget about this card if you're thinking about running newer games. The last AAA title that ran smoothly on this was DOOM (2016) and Prey (2017, same engine), which you could run at maximum settings at 1080p. It has been a great performer, NVidia's drivers are rock solid, and the cooling solution on my Windforce 2X OC edition is outstanding. If you remove the heatsink, have some thermal pads ready for the voltage regulators and VRAM, otherwise you might get some weird artifacts when running specific games. Still works for esports titles, more than great for video recording (NVENC is fantastic!), older games and indie titles run smoothly as well. I personally will be upgrading to a used RX570, because the 1060/1660/2060 are all out of stock and/or too expensive. If you are on a very strict budget, this is definitely a good contender at ~50€ on the used market.

The 3gb version still holds it ground with C2Q and some Phenom II cpu's ;)

It was and still is a good GPU, especially for being mid range, but it's beginning to reach the end of it's lifetime where it starts to be kicked off games into the lower settings. However if you still use this GPU you should plan on upgrading in 2020 or 2021 as it will no longer be suitable for gaming especially on AAA titles where they have gotten very, very demanding. It's older sibling, the GTX 660-Ti, on the other hand was a better buy back in the day as it still partially performs reasonably well today.
